Like the large majority of extensions, you can now register your .FR domains for up to 10 years if you wish.
Until recently, the maximum duration of a .FR registration was one year. It was therefore necessary to renew your domain before the anniversary date - which is no longer displayed in the whois, and is replaces with a more customary expiration date.
As with most extensions, the maximum duration can not exceed 10 years to the day. If you have a .FR domain that is currently active, you can therefore not add more than 9 years to it. For transfers, the operation will add one year to the domain's expiration date rather than reinitialise it to the anniversary date.
Note that this important modification is also true for the other national extensions managed by Afnic: .RE, .YT, .WF, .TF, and .PM.

A geographic gTLD very dear to our hearts will be available shortly: .ALSACE. Why do we love Alsace? If you don't know already, you're missing out. Here are some hints, though: the colored houses, winstubs, Riesling, Pinot, choucroute, should we go on? The European Parliament, the Council of Europe, Strasbourg Cathedral. Still not convinced? The Christmas market, storks, ARTE!
.ALSACE domains, the extension for all who love Alsace, will enter the GoLive phase on Tuesday April 7 at 6 a.m. PDT (3 p.m. in Strasbourg).
The price of a one-year registration will be $66.16 at A rates.
Silently slinking across the night, half human, half shadow, a master of cunning and disguise, the Gandi ninja, a stealthy and deadly force, has infiltrated the .NINJA castle and is deftly making its way through the inky darkness, penetrating the vault of the castle. Suddenly, a thin shiver of light ricochets through the night. The air itself shrieks as the razor-thin steal of the katana slices through it. Within the blink of an eye, the Gandi ninja has once again merged with the silent ocean of the night.
With just a single swing of its quivering blade, the Gandi ninja has accomplished its clandestine mission: cutting the rates on .NINJA into miniscule shards of what they were.
That's right, as the sun dawns on Wednesday, April 1, the work of the Gandi ninja comes into the light: one-year registrations under the new .NINJA gTLD will cost just 2 USD at all rate scales (normally $19.61 at A rates).
This promotion will end with the month of April, so don't wait too long.
The geographic extension for one of the world's great port cities, Osaka, is now entering the GoLive phase. Say it out loud with us: "Osaka. Osaka. Osaka." To qualify for a .OSAKA domain, you need to either be a resident of the prefecture of Osaka, either as a natural person, a company, or one of the communes in the Osaka prefecture or have a direct or indirect link with the prefrecture of Osaka.
The GoLive price of a one-year registration will be $47.82 at A rates.
