Tuesday June 23 marks the beginning of the Sunrise phase on two of the kind of gTLDs that look sharp in a suit and have enviable business cards: .fyi and .mba.

The Sunrise phase for these domains last until August 22 and will then enter the Landrush phase on August 30 for three days only, that is, until September 2, at which point they will enter the GoLive phase.

Two more new gTLDs are entering the Sunrise phase.

The list is below, accompanied by the corresponding Sunrise, Landrush and Golive prices of a one-year registration, all at A rates:

  • .fyi: $154.63 | $176.23 | $27.05
  • .mba: $162.19 | $183.79 | $41.41

Remember, the Sunrise phase is for TMCH-registered trademark holders. Contact our corporate support team if you have a TMCH-registered trademark (or would like help registering your existing trademark at TMCH) in order to register one of these new gTLDs during Sunrise. If you are not among the trademarked, you can still pre-register for the Landrush or GoLive phases. We'll submit your order at the earliest possible moment – as soon as your chosen phase begins – for the best chance of success.

Another New gTLD Is entering the Golive.sucks.

This extension is special. It's for everything that sucks. Of course, plenty of things fit into this category. For example, waiting in line at the DMV sucks, people getting so close to you they are literally breathing on your neck on public transit sucks, putting your hand under a table top and touching someone's used gum sucks, and getting a paper cut sucks. Now you and like-minded people can express their frustration about these kinds of things with a .sucks domain for only $253.10 per year at A-rates.

On the other hand, if you are the DMV, a chronic neck-breather, a tabletop gum depositor or a paper manufacturer specializing in Grade A meat-slicing paper, you might want to register your .sucks domain just to keep someone else from doing so, or to give those people for whom your product... sucks... a place to let you know about it so you can make it suck less.

With ICANN's recent announcement of the release of the infamous blocked "Name Collision" domain names, we're forecasting a flurry of registrations and so we want to clarify how we expect the Name Collision domains to roll out so as to keep the frenzy as orderly as possible.

First off, here's what we mean by name collisions, in domain name jargon:

"Name Collisions" are terms which, in conjunction with certain top-level domains, can cause problems in resolving a name to the right address. Specifically, these problems are related to the boundaries between private name spaces and the public DNS system. All the potentially dangerous or otherwise problematic terms (in terms of security and privacy) had previously been pre-emptively disallowed by ICANN.

Name collision happens when a resource on an internal network has the same name as a domain name. Most people don't give things on internal networks names like example.com, for example, because it was likely that naming it anything ending in .com would naturally result in name collision. But with the release of new gTLDs, extensions that many never expected would be used in the public DNS system are now being made available for registration.

The list of domains ICANN blocked from being registered, then, corresponds to what they considered were names most likely to be used on internal networks.

Now that ICANN believes that the risk for some of these domains has been effectively mitigated, they are allowing these "safe" domains, previously off-limits, to be registered.

EAP (Early Access Program) is Donuts' version of the Landrush phase (the one between the Sunrise and GoLive phase). The EAP lasts 7 days, and was originally conceived of as a way to offer domains which had not been registered during Sunrise at a higher price, which then progressively diminishes each day, until bottoming out three days before the GoLive phase. (For details on how EAP works, see our blog post.)

In the case of former "Name Collisions", these terms will be offered to the public using the same rollout scheme as EAP (progressively diminishing price over a seven-day period) even though the gTLDs in question are already in the GoLive phase.

Donuts, with a portfolio containing hundreds of gTLDs, has chosen to sell domains associated with their gTLDs by theme.

The second theme released, which has been in progress since Wednesday June 17, is the "BUSINESS" theme. This includes the following extensions:

The list of name collisions under each TLD is available at the links above (in CSV format). Many prime domains are available, such as ftp.services, internet.solutions, and web.agency, thought we can't make any promises about their availability by the time the price drops low enough to fit your budget ;)

The EAP prices (at A rates, not including any applicable tax) will vary by day, and will be approximately as follows:

  • Day 1 (June 17, 2015 at 16:00 UTC): +$12,667
  • Day 2 (June 18, 2015 at 16:00 UTC): +$4,222
  • Day 3 (June 19, 2015 at 16:00 UTC): +$1,778
  • Day 4 (June 20, 2015 at 16:00 UTC): +$945
  • Days 5-7 (June 21-24, 2015 at 16:00 UTC): +$189

Note: The prices above do not include the base price of the TLD itself, which may itself be considered "premium" by the Registry. Also, the EAP prices are only payable when creating a domain. On renewal, you would pay the normal price for that extension (or the premium price if the domain is considered as such).

Everyone likes something, some people love something, and others live their lives immersed in the fictional universe they love. The new gTLD that entered  the Sunrise phase on Tuesday June 16, .fans, is all about the latter: this is the extension that celebrates fandom.

And we feel really great about this one because Gandi loves fans. Our fanbase is pretty devoted, and we flatter ourselves that we might someday inspire Gandi fan art. Maybe a steampunk Gandi logo? A Victorian Gandi logo? Our logo is practically begging for a monocle. A Gandi/Batman crossover? (Gandi vs. Batman?) Hipster Gandi logo? And what about Gandi fanfic … ?

And maybe you want to inspire your own fan art? How better to stoke the creative fires than with your own .fans domain, available for $378.19 for a one-year registration at A rates. Or, if you are a fan, if you can wait for Wednesday September 2, you can register one for $102.97 when .fans enters the GoLive phase.

We probably don't need to tell you that we feel the one place chock-full of raw potential, new thoughts, and continuous invention is the online world, and .online aims to create a space on the web for those looking to set up their presence in this exciting space. That goes for you whether you are a high-powered financier, an awkward adolescent, a huge multi-national corporation, or a tiny country school, from creators to searchers to educators and everyone else.

Domains in the .online extension will be available in Sunrise for $216.19, in Landrush for $189.19, and in GoLive for $51.67, all for a one-year registration at A rates.

Currently in the Sunrise phase, this is one of the most anticipated top-level domains at Gandi, and it's a handy little gTLD: .site. it's all about location. Not only does a business need a location IRL, but now more than ever it's important that people can find you online too. A quick, sharp, .site address is a great way to mark your company's location on the Internet. Not only that, but it's an excellent way to stake out your own location online as an individual.

The Sunrise phase will last until July 6 for those with TMCH claims. During this phase a one-year registration will cost $183.79 at A rates.

Then, from July 12 to July 15, the extension will open for everyone at the same price, $183.79 for a one-year registration at A rates, during the Landrush phase.

And finally on July 15 starting at 9:00 am PDT, .site will enter the GoLive phase when a one-year registration will be available or $34.87 at A rates.

If you want to stake out your .site without a TMCH claim for the GoLive phase before July 15 at 9:00 am PDT by registering for your domain for GoLive now, you can benefit from an additional 40% off for a one-year registration, translating to $19.95 for a one-year registration at A rates.

Good news for infomaniacs! The .info extension is on sale!

Infomania is a compulsion to constantly verify and collect information often using the Internet. While sure, it must have existed in past centuries and millennia, infomania strikes us as a uniquely modern obsession to which we all sometimes succumb.

Quick: what's your best friend from elementary school's Facebook status? Who was Philip Barton Key? What's the phone number of the nearest Mexican restaurant? How long would it take to drive to Yosemite from your house? If you can't help but look these things up, then you too might have infomania.

For all things info, there's .info, available until the end of the year, December 31, 2015, for 40% off: that's $9.93 for a one-year registration instead of $16.55 at A rates.

Today's batch of new gTLDs entering the Sunrise phase until August 15 have us feeling patriotic (not for France but the good ol' US of A) because we feel these gTLDs are some of what we do best: soccer (our own version of "football"), movies and coupons.

Soccer fans outside of North America may be quickly buying up .football (which just entered GoLive this month). For those of us who know football is played with your hands, .soccer is now entering the Sunrise phase.

While we confess there's some great cinema from outside of the US (hat tip to French cinema in particular), it's a material fact that the US film industry has made the most money year after year for almost a century than any national cinema in the world (number 1! number 1!...), so we're excited to announce that .movie is also entering the Sunrise phase.

Finally, it's also a material fact that consumer spending in the US constitutes one of the highest percentages of GDP in the entire world as well (we won't speculate if that has anything to do with movies). When it comes to consumption, the US reigns supreme, and we couldn't have done it without our trusted coupon books. We remember fondly cutting coupons out of newspapers and buying only the on-sale items each week at the grocery store. Not surprisingly, coupons have been making the leap to the online world and now .coupons is entering the Sunrise phase as well (but we'll understand if you just have to wait until it's on sale).

These extensions will be in Sunrise until August 15 and will then be in the Landrush phase from August 23 to August 26 before finally entering the GoLive phase on August 26.

The list is below, accompanied by the corresponding Sunrise, Landrush and GoLive prices of a one-year registration, all at A rates:

  • .soccer: $154.63 | $176.23 | $27.05
  • .movie: $356.59 | $378.19 | $270.19
  • .coupons$176.23 | $197.83 | $68.09

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch has the unusual distinction of being the longest place name in the world and it's also located in the charming country of Wales. Brevity may be the soul of wit, but as Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch clearly evidences, in Wales it still doesn't account for anything. Good thing domain names aren't charged by the letter because .wales and its Welsh language counterpart .cymru are now available for a one-year registration at A rates for $21.00.

A promotion on .cat domains, the TLD for Catalonia*, also has us excited for other reasons too.

When studies revealed that rodents infected with Toxoplasmosis gondii (n.b. that's gondii not Gandi), a parasite which may be spread by cats, may be attracted to cat odors rather than repelled as was the case with uninfected control subjects, the media was quick to suppose the parasite could have the same effect in humans and invented "Crazy cat lady syndrome," to explain why some of us just can't help but love cats.

Of course, there's no such syndrome. It turns out that cats infect us with love without resorting to parasitical proxies. And you don't need to look far on the Internet to see why. Normally expressing your cat love with a .cat domain for one year is $13.00 at A rates but from June 8 until September 1 (recently extended!), you can get one for half-price: $6.50.

* A very important caveat regarding .cat domains is that you need to put at least some content on your .cat domain in Catalan. Here's a hint: gat is Catalan for "cat."
